JOB DESCRIPTION / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  This position will involve working as a paraeducator to tutor and assist students at the elementary school. The position may include recess and/or crosswalk duty, providing clerical assistance, and performing other job-related duties as assigned including diapering for an increased rate of pay. All duties of the position will be performed within the scope of Kiona-Benton City School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

1. High School diploma or GED required for employment and must have passed a PRAXIS test, 72 college credits above 100 level, or an AA degree for paraeducator placement. AA degree preferred.

2. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to be flexible, diplomatic and cooperative; follow the teacher’s directions; model appropriate behavior; demonstrate patience, enthusiasm and a positive attitude toward working with students with disabling conditions; maintain composure in difficult situations; value the confidential nature of sensitive student information.

3. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

4. Physically able to lift 50-75 lbs as required.

5. Successful experience working with school-aged children required and have positive evaluations/documentation for school experience.

6. Successful experience at recess duty desirable.

7. Demonstrated clerical skills, training and/or experience in using computers and other technology applications.

8. Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in assisting students in computer lab.

9. Ability to be flexible with the varied demands of the position.

10. Ability to communicate effectively and work with a variety of people.

11. Ability to follow directions in all situations.

12. Willingness to work with all children within the school regardless of abilities and in 1:1 settings.

13. Willingness to support and promote the classroom teachers and to maintain a warm and friendly relationship with those teachers.

14. Must be able and available to work Monday-Friday.

15. Positive evaluations and recommendations required.

16. Must be willing to work in the home setting for tutoring.

17. Must also be willing to work at the public library.

18. Other duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

1.  PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit, crouch or kneel, bend and twist, and talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee may be required to physically move quickly while performing student supervision duties.

 

2.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be assigned to work in outside weather/environmental conditions, and may be exposed to weather/environmental extremes, including wet and/or humid conditions, cold, heat, and allergens.

 

SPECIFIC DETAILS:

Monday-Friday 7 hours per day for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year.
